The Lady of The Wolves

Off in the distance,

a haunting cry echoes on the night breeze
Mists swirl...

almost as if they dance to the haunting melody
A reflection of gold,

shining through the night thickness
A moon,
catching the reflection of the She-Wolf’s eyes

She pauses in her travels

raises her head and listens to the echoes of the cry
Standing silently, as the sound gradually fades

and silence again befalls the land
She raises her head to the sky

eyes shining with a century of knowledge
And slowly, opens her mouth

and howls towards the moon lit sky

Her song is a song of beauty, of wonder, of love
Her song, unbeknown to herself

is a song of her life, her travels, who she is
She raises her voice

then slowly lowering the pitch

 ends her answering cry
And then she waits

The answer is again heard on the winds

 taken up by the pack.
She tilts her head to the side

 and smiles her wolfish smile
All is well with the world
All is happy with her family

She sets off slowly in the direction of the cry
Knowing her work is not yet done
Knowing there is still much to teach
Knowing she has much to learn

Another year has passed for her

The Lady of the Wolves
Another year of tears

both of sadness and happiness
And the cry from her pack

is a cry of joy in having known her
And the cry from her pack

is a cry of thanks for having taught them

From the Alpha to the Omega... Each has their place in the pack.   The Alpha: Big, Strong, commanding, respected by the pack.   A true symbol of leadership.   The Omega: quiet, submissive, the lowest ranking member of the pack.   Yet, valued highly by the pack as the instigator of play and fun.    The pack eats, sleeps, plays and hunts as one... each member knowing their duties and ensuring the pack's survival.    New members to the pack quickly learn their place and join the pack helping to maintain a close knit family.   The wolf is a true victim of man's insecurity... Haunted by evil legends, tales and fables... Hunted to the brink of their very extinction.    But the Spirit of the Wolf cannot be broken, they have survived man's attempts to destroy them.    Now they struggle to maintain their rightful place in the wilderness.    Maybe if man learns to understand the values of the pack-- Like the lone wolf that cannot survive without the pack man cannot survive alone without his fellow kind.    Continue to fight for your survival, Wolf pack: Raise your young, bring them up in your footsteps...
